My name is Larry Bishop. I've been around horses since I was a kid, but usually as the brother of two horse-crazy sisters. I spent a lot of time holding the reins while they did all the work. One summer, my twin sister and I worked at a riding stable at Lake Draper. We showed up every Saturday and Sunday at the crack of dawn to feed, groom and saddle the trail horses. Then we got to spend the day chasing down riders and telling them not to run the rental horses. Never got paid, but it was the best job ever. I became seriously interested in trail riding about 10 years ago and eventually adopted an Arabian gelding from Blaze's. I also participate in equestrian activities of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval reenactment and educational organization. No longer able to ride due to health issues, I developed an interest in miniature horses and harness driving. In 2014 I adopted a miniature horse from Blaze's that I'm training to pull a cart. With an undergraduate degree in philosophy and masters in human relations, I have recently retired from public service after 30 years employment with the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services. Now I spend my time trying to stay young and healthy, and can often be seen in medieval costumes or driving a cart pulled by a dashing snow-white steed named Winton. A board member since 2011, I'm proud to be part of an organization that is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abused and neglected horses, and that conducts other activities to promote responsible horse ownership.
